- McDan Shipping CEO has pledged to help La Presec students
- He visited the school and expressed concern at the current conditions
- La Presec students have been studying on cement blocks and wooden planks
Mr. Danial Makorley, Chief Executive Officer of McDan Shipping, has pledged to come to the aid of student's of the La Presbyterian Senior High School who currently study in classrooms use wood planks on cement blocks as a substitute for furniture.
First year student's of the La Presby SHS have had to make due with almost village like learning conditions even though the school is situated right in the center of Ghana's capital city. Now thanks to Citi News' continuous coverage of their plight, help has materialized in the form of McDan Shipping's CEO, Mr. Daniel Makorley.
According to a recent report, Mr. Makorley's visit La Presby SHS on Tuesday, October 17, and was very disappointed with what he saw. From children studying on planks supported by cement building blocks, to classes that lacked proper marker boards.

"It is serious. I really don’t have words to explain it... I didn’t know the extent of the problem, but from what I am seeing right now, it is serious. It’s the middle of the city and kids are sitting on blocks learning. Some are virtually standing, and you can also see that the classrooms are over crowded.” Said Mr. Makorley.
speaking during his visit to the school, Mr. Makorley said he'd contract a furniture company to begin producing furniture for both teachers and students. According to Mr. Makorley, though he can't do much, he was only doing what he could to help the situation.
He also mentioned that it is time for the private sector to step in and try to support ailing schools.
"This is not a village. It's right in the middle of the city and they're sitting on blocks learning." He said.
