Akufo-Addo launches Digital Property Addressing System

-President Akufo-Addo has launched the National Digital Property Addressing System

-The system is designed to make locating landmarks easy

-Another major purpose of the system is to assist in the dispensation of emergency services

The President of the Republic of Ghana, President Akufo-Addo has today launched a Digital System for easy navigation which has the major function of making it easy to locate anyone within the country.

During the launch which was held at the Accra International Conference Center, the president stressed on the importance of the system which will be known as the ghanapostGPS.

He indicated that the system was going to make it easy for security agencies like the police and health service providers like ambulances to easy locate victims in the case of any emergency which has hitherto resulted in the loss of life and property.

The system is also geared toward capturing location details of workers from all aspects of the economy including the Waakye sellers, “Blue Kiosk” operators and the like.

The president also revealed that the system was going to support revenue collection purposes to help ensure that revenue collected goes back to develop the nation.

According to the statement released on the official website of the presidency, the project was born from a partnership of the Ministry of Communications and Ghana Post.

The president indicated that the days of using landmarks to give direction are over. He added in a Facebook post on his wall that, “With this new system, every property in Ghana will have an address and can be accounted for, including the location of the blue kiosk, the ‘waakye’ seller or the ‘koko’ seller. The Property Addressing System also means that the ‘koko’ seller can now open a bank account, as he or she will be able to meet the basic requirement to access loan facilities from a bank”.
