-Students in the Karaga Senior High School have rioted to protest against action of some teachers
-The teachers are believed to have confiscated devices belonging to the students and set them on fire
-The students retaliated by ‘attacking’ the teachers who had no option than to flee
Reports coming from the Northern Region of Ghana indicate that some SHS students of the Karaga Senior High School have clashed violently with some teacher of the school after their mobile devices were seized and set ablaze.
An unannounced inspection exercise was carried out by the teachers of the school and some devices including 200 mobile phones, laptops, ear pieces and chargers were seized. The seized items were immediately burnt.
The teachers’ action was justified by the fact that they had warned the students against bringing the mobile and electronic devices to school because they were not allowed.
The students on the other hand argued that the school did not have boarding facilities so they came to school with their devices to be able to communicate with the family members.
The action taken by the teachers outraged the students who violently rioted on the school compound and started attacking some teachers forcing the teaching body of the school to run for their lives.
Some of the teachers have since abandoned the school for fear of being attacked by the peeved students.
The school authorities are yet to respond to the incident of the students rioting to protest against the action of their teachers
The impasse has however been reported to the police who have stormed the school compound to restore the peace. The District Police Commander of the area who was also on the campus of the Senior High School has given a sound warning to the students to desist from any acts of rioting.
