It was nothing short of a rich display of Ashanti culture as the king of the Ashantis, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, returned from Brazil.

Dressed in traditional attires, scores of people, amidst drumming and dancing, trooped to the Kumasi International Airport and were full of praise for their king.

The motive for the rousing welcome, albeit not too clear, is alleged to be an exhibition of faith in the Ashanti leader in the wake of the recent money laundering scandal in which his name was mentioned.

Information available to YEN indicates that the reason behind the act was portray the love the people of Ashanti have for the king.

It was also to show appreciation for, and pride in, all that the he has done for the people.

A group present to welcome him, the Kumasi Youth Association (KuYA), are alleged to be responsible for the lockup of the Daily Guide’s office in Kumasi.

This was, according to sources, in reaction to allegations levelled again the king.
