I did not make a tweet about Bastie-Banku fight - Akufo-Addo clears the air

Just a day after the boxing match between undefeated Bukom Banku and Samir Bastie, a tweet was circulating on social media which indicated that Akufo-Addo was congratulating and extending an invitation to the winner of the bout.

The tweet making rounds on social was written in pidgin and it indicated that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was congratulating Samir Bastie for defeating Bukom Banku. The tweet went on to reveal that the president had extended an invitation to Bastie to visit him at the Flagstaff House for a bowl of banku.

The fake tweet read, “Congratulations @Bastirsamirgh! You for come chop Banku for Flagstaff House o”

However, Kow Essuman, Esq., who acts as Counsel and Social Media Manager for Akufo-Addo has signed and issued a disclaimer dissociating the president from the said tweet.

He entreated the Ghanaian populace to disregard the tweet and treat it with the contempt it deserves because it was not coming from the Office of the President.

The President took the nation by storm when he sent a tweet in ‘broken English’ to Shatta Wale wishing him a happy birthday and extending an invitation for him to visit the Flagstaff House.

The tweet was so popular and so widespread that it caught the attention of foreign media house BBC who reported it on their website.

Some Ghanaians however criticized the president for using ‘unofficial language’ on an official social media account. Shatta Wale in a rebuttal took a swipe at all the people talking about the president’s tweet by indicating that if the tweet had been made by the Nigerian president, no one would complain.
