Police at Buipe in the Central Gonja District of the Northern Region have taken into their custody Madam Alidu Rahinatu, the matron of Buipe Senior High School who allegedly stole large quantities of food items and toiletries belonging to the school.
Madam Rahinatu was reportedly caught on Monday night while she was carting away bags of soap, several gallons of cooking oil, cans of milk, sacks of maize, among others in a vehicle she had hired.
According to reports, Madam Rahinatu was busted with the help of two assembly members of the area who had monitored her activities.
One of the assembly members, Honourable Balkisu who also serves as the school's Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) chairperson, got a hint of the matron's activities alerted her colleague at Fufulso with details of the vehicle.
The vehicle was then monitored until it got to a point on the Tamale–Buipe highway — around Fufulso Damongo junction – before it was intercepted by police who took the vehicle with registration number AW 3864 – 13 and its occupants including Madam Rahinatu to the police station.
A later search at the residence of the suspect by the police revealed more than double the number of items found in the vehicle.
She is said to have pleaded guilty in her caution statement to the police.
“It was a tip off…when it happened the board chairman of the school, infact, stakeholders were not around so we are going to have a serious meeting,” one of the assembly members said according to Starr FM.
