Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Kasapa FM, Gladys Duru indicated that she was not going to allow her husband to face Bastie in a rematch slated for next year.
Gladys revealed that her husband was discriminated against in the recent bout against the former captain of Ghana’s boxing team known as the Black Bombers.
She went on to mention that she was in Bukom Banku’s corner during the fight and she noticed that her husband was not treated fairly by both the referee of the match, officials who were present and the entire Ghana Boxing Association.
She added that her husband received a number of low punches from Bastie Samir but the referee turned a blind eye to them. Upon this premise, Gladys Duru indicated that she was vehemently against the proposed rematch.
However, Bukom Banku, known in real life as Braimah Kamako said that he was going to go against his wife’s advice and get the rematch from Bastie Samir to prove that he was the best in Ghana. The boxer said that he was a warrior and was not going to buck down after losing to Bastie.
He added that he was prepared to face any other fighter because boxing was his profession. He added that a rematch was the only way he could redeem his image as Ghana’s and Africa’s champion.
Bukom Banku, 37, was handed his first ever career defeat after 29 successful bouts by Bastie Samir, 31 in a non-title bout which was organized at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.
Bukom Banku’s defeat to Bastie came by way of a technical knockout in the 7th Round of the highly-attended fight.
