But De Bruyne is happy and has praised City's "superb" project under Pep Guardiola.

De Bruyne's agent last week spoke of how he believes the play-maker deserves to be paid the same kind of money as Neymar, who is on £625,000 a week.

The former Wolfsburg star is currently on £115,000 a week after until 2021 after penning a six-year deal when he joined City.

De Bruyne's agent is asking City for a five times addition to what the blond Belgian winger is getting as wages.

Patrick De Koster said: "In the coming months, I’ll meet with City to figure out how to improve and extend his contract.

"His salary? I cannot say. But if you think what Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are being paid, you can picture."

De Bruyne has been in sublime form, he has contributed two goals and 11 assists so far this season.

After last month's 5-0 rout of Palace, De Bruyne said: "I am very happy at City.

"Everything is going well for me. I have no reason to go anywhere else. The project City have is superb, so it's best for me.

"They have spoken with Patrick in the summer and said 'give us time to make the transfers and we speak after the summer."

"That will soon happen, I think. I'm not thinking it has to happen fast. I have a four-year contract.

"Whether I'm four, five or six years under contract, that does not change much, but it’s nice the club have so much confidence in me."
