Gov't announces re-registration of SIM cards

Mobile phone users in the country may have to re-register their SIMs, a Deputy Communications Minister, Vincent Sowah Odotei has hinted.

According to him, the initial registration of SIM cards was fraught with many mistakes and irregularities and as part of government' moves to protect Ghana’s cyber eco-system, those mistakes must be corrected.

The issue of SIM registration cropped up at the recently held National Cyber Security Week.

Responding to some of the issues raised concerning the matter, Mr Odotei told Starr FM:

"We have learned our lessons and I can assure you that we will make sure we roll out a system that is sustainable, that is resilient and that will address the needs that we want, we are not going to go to the relapse system that happened the last time, never”.
