Barcelona started their Copa del Rey title defense with an emphatic 3-0 win over third-tier Real Murcia in the first leg of their last-32 tie, on Tuesday, October 24.
Goals from Francisco Alcacer, Gerard Deulofeu and Jose Arnaiz helped the Spanish giants make a bright start in a competition they have won in recent times.
Alcacer opened the scoring in the 41st minute with a beautiful header from a Deulofeu cross.
Deulofeu soon after got his name on the scoresheet with a beauty in the 52nd minute. He dribbled his way past his marker before a smart finish to beat the goalkeeper.
Debutant Arnaiz scored another brilliant goal in the 56th minute to give Barcelona a 3-0 lead.
That was how the game ended as the Barcelona team without Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets put up a good performance to take a 3-0 first leg win to the Camp Nou.
Barcelona have won the Copa del Rey in each of the last three seasons including that of 2016/2017 and they are looking to make it four times in a roll.
