-Members of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly have started a petition to impeach their chief executive, Musah Superior
-They are accusing him of being disrespectful and giving out dubious contracts
The Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mohammed Iddrisu Musah Superior, is in trouble, as some members of his assembly have moved to impeach him.
The assembly members who are accusing Superior of lack of respect and financial under-dealings have started a petition for his impeachment.
The petition seeking to trigger Section 20 clause 4(a) of the Local Government Act 2016 (Act 936), has already been signed by 31 assembly members out of 58.
Section 27 of the act suggests the processes for passing a vote of no confidence in Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs)
In the petition sighted by YEN.com.gh, Superior is alleged to have issued several dubious contracts.
He is also accused of channelling the assembly’s “meagre” resources into the salary payment of cronies to the neglect of critical developmental issues.
This allegedly includes the payment of ¢9,150 monthly to a 61-member taskforce for no work done.
Confirming a suspected lack of cooperation at the assembly, the petitioners said the mayor had been “disregarding and disrespecting assembly members.”
Though the impeachment may not be successful, as it will need the support of two-thirds of assembly members, the initiation of the process comes as a surprise.
Superior was one of the few current MMDCEs who had a 100 percent endorsement from their assemblies.
