-The Ministry of Youth and Sports has asked the GFA to change the starting time of the MTN FA Cup final between Hearts and Kotoko.
-The two clubs were scheduled to play at 5:00pm on Sunday at the Tamale Stadium
-The ministry feels the kick-off time may not be safe for fans
Sunday's MTN FA Cup final between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Tamale Sports Stadium likely not kick-off at 5:00pm as advertised.
This follows a directive from the Ministry of Youth and Sports to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for a change of kick-off time to 3:00pm.
The, according to the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Pius Hadzide, was to ensure the safety of traveling fans and supporters of both clubs.
"This has become necessary after considering all the safety precautions and taken into account the long distance to be traveled by fans and supporters of the two clubs from Accra, Kumasi and other parts of the country," he said in a letter sighted by YEN.com.gh.
The order from the ministry is believed to based on the findings of the commission of inquiry which investigated the causes of the May 9 disaster that led to the of 126 football fans at the Accra Sports Stadium in 2001 after a Hearts-Kotoko game.
The commission had among other things recommended that matches between Ghana's two most successful clubs should neither be played on week days nor under flood lights.
Sunday's match, if allowed to come off as scheduled, will have to be played under flood lights, hence the ministry's intervention.
