A parliamentary aspirant in the 2016 elections, Diamond Appiah, has stated that the Radio Television Personality (RTP) awards merely recognizes family and friends.
She added that hardworking people in the industry are usually relegated to the background.
Information gathered from www.mynewsgh.com reveals that she castigated the organizers for recognizing only those who can pay money in order to secure awards for themselves.
This, in her opinion is sickening, a shame and a blot on Ghana’s media industry.
In a message posted on Facebook, she stated that it is amazing how a fraudster would be given the opportunity to extort data and other resources from unsuspecting Ghanaians.
She went on to say some persons take advantage of public platforms to nominate preferred media personalities into categories in exchange for free promotional packages.
The end result, she continued, is that undeserving persons win the awards.
She therefore called for a boycott of future award schemes until organizers do the right thing.
She went ahead to advise individuals and institutions with big brands to refrain from indulging in schemes that help enrich people who don’t deserve the rewards.
In her opinion, the awards scheme has no credible board to thoroughly examine the nominees presented in the year under review.
She further added that the only instance in which votes are truly credible is that which occurs on December 7th of every electoral year.
Diamond Appiah therefore called for a total boycott of the RTP awards as it isn’t worth the time and energy invested into it.
