-Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah has confirmed that he will contest in the next NDC presidential primary.
-This will likely break his promise of not contesting in a primary which has former President Mahama contesting
A former Minister for Trade and Industry, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah will contest the opposition National Democratic Congress' (NDC) next presidential primary, he has disclosed.
The NDC is expected to hold its presidential primary next year ahead of the 2020 general elections with names like Dr Spio-Garbrah, Professor Joshua Alabi, Alban Bagbin and former President John Mahama all popping up as potential candidates.
Speaking to Bola Ray of Starr FM's Starr Chat, Dr Spio-Garbrah confirmed his participation saying, he has what it takes to win the primary
“I’m going to file my nomination for presidency when the time is due,” the former ambassador to US declared.
On the possible competition with former President Mahama, Dr Spio-Garbrah pointed out that, “I am not there to beat anybody, I am there to present myself and win regardless of who is there…everybody goes into a race to win.”
The confirmation from Dr Spio-Garbrah will come as surprise as he is on record to have stated that he would not contest if former President Mahama was to make a comeback.
But his current position is indicative of the fact that though Mr Mahama may likely contest, Dr Spio-Garbrah will disregard his promise and compete with him.
