A heartless thief in Kent, UK robbed an unconscious, dying man and spent the money on beer, tobacco and scratch cards.
John Yarwood, 31, committed the callous crime on September 23.
He had come across the victim, later identified as Ian Birch, severely injured at the bottom of a staircase in a block of flats.
Instead of helping Birch, Yarwood took his cell phone and wallet and ran off with them. Birch's neighbors managed to call an ambulance, which took him to hospital.
As Yarwood was enjoying the money, Birch fought for his life. Unfortunately, he succumbed a few days later and passed away.
Police soon caught up with Yarwood and arrested him. A court has now sentenced him to two years in jail.
In an interview, Detective Constable Paul Oliver said: "His actions were selfish, greedy and showed no understanding about the difficult and tragic situation his victim was facing."
