- Government has launched the DVLA smart cards
- Vice president says the premium card can be obtained in one day
Vice president of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has launched the DVLA smart cards as part of efforts to streamline activities related to the application of driver's licenses.
Dr. Bawumia has revealed that the smart cards will revolutionize the road sector in Ghana. So far, the application process for drivers license remains a hectic task considering the proliferation of middle-men at the DVLA.
According to Bawumia, it will take the maximum of two to three weeks for applicants to have their licenses delivered under this new smart cards regime.
What this means is that it will take a day to have the smart drivers' licenses delivered.
“Fake licenses, fake roadworthy stickers, fake number plates” the Vice-president chronicled, adding, all these have security threat and massive revenue loss to the state," Bawumia stated.
