Asenso-Boakye pays surprise visit to Bantama gas station

- Deputy Chief of Staff Asenso- Boakye has paid a surprise visit to a gas filling station in Bantama, Kumasi

- He reportedly received numerous petitions from concerned citizens about the stations siting

- He was accompanied by other two other high ranking government officials

Presidential Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Francis Asenso Boakye, has paid an unannounced visit to a gas filling station situated in Bantama, Kumasi following petitions concerning the filling stations location from local residents.

After reportedly receiving numerous petitions from concerned residents who live near the Royal Gas Filling Station in Bantama, Kumasi, Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye, accompanied by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Hassan Tampuli, and the Deputy Minister of Energy, Mr. Mohammed Min Adam, paid a surprise visit to the filling station to get a personal perspective of the situation.

During the high ranked surprise visit, it became apparent the station's location was in violation of existing laws. Instead of being located more than 500 meters away from residential properties, the Royal Gas Filling Station is located just five meters away from residential housing.

On his part, Mr. Asenso Boakye noted that the filling station's location wasn't appropriate, and assured concerned citizens government would look into the matter in order to address the situation.

Mr. Asenso-Boakye stated that, according to a cabinet directive, a team of experts will tour the country and effectively shut down gas stations deemed too dangerous in order to avert further disasters.

He also reiterated that, by law, gas filling stations are not supposed to be located less than 500 meters away from housing, schools, and social centers, and stressed that the new laws were being applied in order to stop explosions.
