Ghanaian hiplife legend, Michael Kwabena Okyere Darko better known as Obrafour, has expressed worry over the new crop of Ghanaian rappers.
According to the prominent musician, young rappers who are desperate to succeed, now equate rap music to vulgar language and profanity.
He says the current crop of musicians no longer pay attention to their lyrical content but are always in a hurry to jump onto beats to spew out ‘garbage’ to their audience.
According to a report by GhanaCelebrities.com, Obrafour said the hiplife genre is now losing substance due to the new direction taken by many ‘clueless’ rappers.
“When rappers fail to recognize the importance of message and it’s all about beat driven, that’s what you get. It’s not about talent anymore, it’s about hype, profanity and vulgar language plus the sub-culture of insults that has crept into our rap music”, he lamented.
He also added that he is really bothered about the new twist Ghanaian musicians are taking, and he will do all he can to salvage the situation.
“Obrafour remains the same though but there’s this positive energy flowing through me. There’s the hunger to reposition myself for the greater works my maker is about to do,” he said.
