Fomer Standard Liege and Belgium star Denis Dasoul has died after he was tragically struck by lightning on a surfing outing with his girlfriend.
The 34-year-old had captained Belgium at youth team level but retired in 2011 as he decided to become a surfer.
The Sun reports that the former footballer was involved in the freak accident while on his "dream" trip to Bali, Indonesia with his girlfriend Pellaers Allison.
Dasoul had retired in 2011 and moved permanently to Australia.
He was struck by lighting while paddling out with his surfing instructor on Sunday, November 5.
Onlookers said a storm hit the Batu Bolong beach and as the grey skies intensified,they saw a gigantic bolt of lightning tear down from the sky and hit both Dasoul and his teacher.
The former youth international is said to have died instantly.
An eyewitness claimed: "They were finishing their session and sitting up on their boards."
His former clubs Royal Antwerp and Torres posted messages on social media following the death.
