Black Stars players Asamoah Gyan and Christian Atsu have been ruled out of Ghana’s last World Cup qualifier against Egypt on Sunday YEN.com.gh can confirm.
The duo picked up different injuries, but the team’s medical staff were hopeful that they could recover in time for the game.
However, it has now emerged that they will both not take part in the game after failing to shake off their respective injuries.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed that captain Gyan had picked up a thigh injury while training with his international teammates on Tuesday.
The Kayserispor striker subsequently pulled out of training and has since not gained full fitness.
For Atsu, he was already injured before reporting to camp with the Black Stars. The winger sustained an injury while playing for his club, Newcastle United over the weekend.
Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah will now have to make do without the influential duo, and is likely to parade a youthful side against Egypt on Sunday.
Ghana will play against the Pharaohs at the Cape Coast stadium, with the Egyptians having already qualified to the World Cup.
