John Dramani Mahama has revealed that the burden of being president of Ghana can sometimes cause sleepless nights. According to Mahama, he suffered so many sleepless nights during his tenure as president of the republic.

Speaking at the 50th-anniversary celebration of the Madina Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Trinity Parish, Mahama argued that the very challenges he faced as president is the same Nana Addo is being faced with.

“Leadership is not an easy thing. We must always pray for leaders. I’ve been there before and I know what it’s like. Sleepless nights. And I’m sure my successor is also having very sleepless nights." he said.

Meanwhile, Mahama is calling on Ghanaians to respect political authority whether they like the person in power or not.

"You must show respect to the president, because you don’t know when you yourself will find yourself there. Or your son will find himself there, or your relative will find himself there, or even somebody you like will find himself there,” the ex-president advised.

Mahama's advise follows his recent outburst at the NDC unity walk which saw him hit hard against the government over various policies he termed "fraudulent". Mahama described the recent Ghana Post application as "419" and also "causing financial loss to the state".

Meanwhile, powerful forces in the NDC are calling on Mahama to contest the 2020 elections. This follows a closed-door meeting by ten regional chairmen of the party who all signed to approve on Mahama leading the party.

What this means is that John Dramani Mahama could be contesting the elections again. YEN.com.gh earlier reported of how John Mahama declined to state whether he will contest the elections or not.

But Mahama's statement attracted disagreement from key party executives who say he is the best candidate for the party in 2020.
