-Government is wants to end the purchase of expensive vehicles like Land Cruisers for the use of ministers and other appointees.
-Such expensive vehicles would be replaced with saloon cars like Corolla and Camry
Government will from next year break from the tradition of acquiring expensive vehicles for official appointees.
According to Gabby Asare Otchere Darko, a leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a member of President Nana Akufo-Addo's inner circles, plans were advanced to purchase saloon cars for ministers' use instead of the regular trend of V8s.
"I am also aware that the Finance Minister is in fact planning to buy Toyota Camry, Corolla and the like for Ministers and their deputies, etc. from 2018 onwards", he has stated.
There have been constant criticisms of the use of expensive vehicles like Toyota Land Cruisers by ministers and other government appointees over the years.
Many citizens feel the acquisition of such expensive vehicles is an unecessary burden on the public purse and have called for much less expensive options.
Others have also lambasted the Akufo-Addo government for the long convoys which has become characteristic of their time saying they bring avoidable inconveniences to road users.
Reacting to the criticism of the current government's use of such vehicles, Mr Otchere-Darko has stated that there have been no new additions of such vehicles as critics want us to believe.
"What I do know is that the Minister of Finance has stubbornly refused to buy the usual Toyota Landcruiser V8 or what-have-you for ministers since the change in government", he posted on Facebook.
