Mourinho is desperate to strengthen his squad in January to be able to compete with a very strong Manchester City side for the Premier League title.

Though Fellaini has been a regular feature under the Portugese gaffer this summer, it is looking likely that he will be the first to leave Old Trafford in the January transfer window.

The former Real Madrid manager was full of praise for the 29-year-old former Everton man after the defeat at Chelsea last week.

Even though United has denied agreeing to sell the Belgian in January with his contract talks stalling.

It might be a good deal for the Red Devils to bring £8m rather than lose the former Eveton midfielder on a free transfer next summer.

However United have been linked with a number of players including Shakhtar Donetsk's midfielder Fred.

Mourinho reportedly traveled to Sweden alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic to watch Red Bull Leipzig's Emil Forsberg play against Italy.
