Former president, John Dramani Mahama, has been endorsed to contest the 2020 general elections by a team of ten regional chairmen of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The go-ahead given Mahama continues to be opposed by some members of the party who believe he is not capable of winning power for the opposition party.
A pressure group within the NDC is not only rejecting the call for Mahama to lead the party but also calling on regional executives to disagree with the decision of the ten regional chairmen.
Called by the term " Bring Back NDC", this pressure group is of the view that there are hidden attempts by some party executives to “manipulate processes to favour John Dramani Mahama”.
In a press statement, the pressure group suggests that having a new candidate for the party will help the opposition NDC to not only rebrand but also present a fierce challenge to the NPP.
“Recycling John Mahama as our flagbearer would reinforce critics’ claim that the NDC does not have presidential materials. This has the tendency to bolster the confidence of our opponents’ grassroots, and dampen the spirit of our rank and file," excerpts of the press release stated.

Meanwhile, John Mahama is yet to officially make known his interest in contesting the elections as he has entreated party members to stay calm and organized.
