-The referendum on the creation of new regions in the country will cost GH¢932 million
-The amount is expected to set aside in the 2018 Budget Statement set to be presented in Parliament today
A total of GH¢932 million is expected to be used to conduct the referendum on the proposed creation of four additional regions in the country.
The amount has reportedly been set aside in the 2018 Budget and Economic Policy Statement of the government due to be presented to Parliament today [Wednesday], November 15.
The creation of the new regions was one of the promises made by President Nana Akufo-Addo during the 2016 electioneering campaign.
He proposed that four new regions be created out the Volta, Brong Ahafo, Western and Northern region.
After his victory, he subsequently set up the special ministry of Regional Reorganisation and Development headed by Dan Botwe for this purpose.
It is not clear if the amount represents the total budget for the special ministry, but Graphic Online reports that the amount would be used to organise the YES or NO vote in fulfillment of the Constitutional requirement for the creation of new regions.
