The King of Ashante Kingdom, Otumfou Osei Tutu II, has dismissed rumours that he is a fan of Accra Hearts of Oak, Kotoko’s fiercest rival.
There has been a popular rumour that the Asantehene has always been a supporter of Accra Hearts of Oak against his own team, Kotoko.
However, His Majesty Otumfou has cleared the air on this matter, putting it to rest.
“I only got acquainted with football after I became Asantehene and got close to Kotoko.”
“I knew nothing about football during the time that I lived in abroad,” Otumfou said.

He explained further that he could not be a fan of Hearts of Oak because his interests then were not in football.
He made these comments when the management of Kotoko called on him at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday.
Together with the club’s players and technical advisors and some fans, the management was at the Palace to present the MTN FA Cup trophy that the team had won to the Asantehene.
Kotoko won the MTN FA Cup after beating Accra Hearts of Oak 3-1 in a keenly contested football match two weeks ago in Tamale.
The Otumfou congratulate the management and other team members on winning the trophy.
He further tasked them to work harder and to serve the club with a clean heart, not with personal interests or love of money.
He assured the management, players and others members of the Kotoko club of his maximum support to ensure that Kotoko succeeds as a club.
Adding that it is part of the legacy he inherited as the King of Ashante Kingdom and he is bounded by tradition to support the club.
