The Vice President of the Republic Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, together with National Chief Imam on Friday, joined the family and friends of the late Aliu Mahama for a special Muslim prayer in Accra.

As part of plans to mark the 5th anniversary of the late Aliu, hundreds of Muslim leaders and top government officials came together to perform ‘Adua’ for the late Ghanaian leader.
Dr Bawumia who was addressing gathering at the ceremony said that he was not surprised the anniversary of Dr Aliu Mahama has brought unity to both family members and the entire Muslim community.

The Vice President indicated that the late Ghanaian leader lived a noble and selfless life by loving everyone regardless of their political affiliation.

“We see Aliu Mahama as a pioneer as far as our politics is concerned. Alhaji was the only person who was able to bridge the gap between Zongos and Northerners in a very unique manner.."
In fact, he is the whole brain behind President Akufo-Addo’s Zongo Development Fund initiative which we’re going to enjoy today,” Dr Bawumia said.

Vice President Bawumia also revealed that the late Aliu strategically positioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to be able to defuse the anti-Zongo/Northern agenda by the opposition party at the time.
The late Alhaji Aliu Mahama became the vice president of Ghana under President Kufour’s regime, until his demise five years ago.
