- The Electricity Company of Ghana has restored power back to the Ashanti Regional branch of GBC local radio station
- Power supply to the local radio station was cut last week Thursday following a GH¢1.75 million debt
- The Ashanti Region PRO, Erasmus Baidoo, says several efforts to retrieve the money from GBC have not yielded any positive result
After spending nearly five days in darkness, the offices of the Ashanti Region’s Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) have been lighted-up again.
However, Mr. Erasmus Baidoo, the Public Relations Officer of ECG in the Ashanti Region, has disclosed that attempt to retrieve the debt from GBC has proven futile.
It is therefore, currently unclear as to what agreement was reached between the ECG and GBC for the power to be restored.
Reports were ripe last week that the Electricity Company of Ghana cut power supply to the regional branch of GBC over a GH¢1.75 debt.
This move by the ECG did not go down well with management of GBC, which led to a scuffle between the two states institutions.
But for the timely intervention of the Asokwa District Police Command, the quarrel would have resulted in violence, according to reports.
ECG’s pickup which was brought to the GBC premises was grounded by the station’s security officers.
The Ashanti Regional Director of GBC, Sam Kwatia, expressed disappointment over ECG’s actions.
According to him, ECG’s presence at the GBC’s premises amounts to invasion.
Mr. Kwatia hinted that the state broadcasters will proceed to take legal actions against the Electricity Company of Ghana.
