- The NDC member is saying J.J Rawlings cannot be compared to former President Mahama
- Anthony Nukpenu argues President Mahama is more committed to the NDC than the founder
A top member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has disclosed that former President John Dramani Mahama’s level of loyalty and commitment towards the party, cannot be compared to the founder, Jerry John Rawlings.
According to Anthony Nukpenu, though Jerry Rawlings founded the umbrella family through hard work, John Mahama has selflessly served the NDC with diligence over the past few years.
Speaking on Accra-based Kasapa FM, the NDC Greater Accra Organizer, revealed that he is yet to see Rawlings’ full commitment towards his own party ever since he handed over power.
“John Dramani Mahama is the only former President who has shown love, loyalty, commitment, dedication and respect to the NDC more than anyone. When it comes to former President Rawlings, I have not seen that”, he noted.
The NDC man in his conversation, insisted that party bigwigs must concentrate on organizing and reuniting the party, instead of fighting over who becomes the next flagbearer in the 2020 general elections.
Anyone with such an idea, the NDC Organizer says, is not a true party man but a self-seeking individual who does not have the interest of the party at heart.
“If people think that they will be out there and be throwing stones, it will not work. I can tell you that John Dramani Mahama is not so eager to contest the flagbearership of the NDC. NDC was united but greed caused our defeat. I am not a John Mahama supporter but I love him so much because of his humility and comportment”, he said.
Anthony Nukpenu added that all NDC members who are aggressively championing their interest in order to be chosen as flagbearer are greedy.
The NDC under the leadership of President Mahama suffered a humiliating defeat in the 2016 elections to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and its leader Nana Akufo-Addo.
