Over the last year some Ghanaians have been able to acquire fame and popularity thanks to a variety of methods. For some it was with music, while for others it was via social media. Whatever it is that got them the fame they now enjoy, the one thing they had in common is that they were generally unknown to the Ghanaian audience.
So we at YEN.com.gh put together a list of people we believe became famous in the past year (more or less) and completely blindsided Ghanaians in the process.
Rashida Black Beauty
Rashida Black Beauty first became famous after she shared a message on Facebook insulting her ex-boyfriend who apparently left her for another, and went on to win a People's Choice Award. She has since made the news headlines for far less reputable reasons, although she since apologized for these reasons.
Patapaa's rise to popularity is one that's been fraught with adversity. Even while his hit song "One Corner" continues to make waves, many have described the song and the dance routine that accompanies it as vulgar and obscene. Nevertheless, Patapaa's song still gets people dancing in many Ghanaian parties.

At this point, not much needs to be said about big Shaq since we're pretty sure everybody knows about him. First starting as a joke, his hit song "Man's not hot" has completely gone viral and gotten others to do remakes of the hilarious track. He now even has a video for his song, a video where names the likes of DJ Khaled are seen congratulating Big Shaq.
Nana Appiah Mensah
Though he may have been well known, Zylofone Media's boss, Nana Appiah Mensah really started making waves when his company aggressively began signing up acts and property over the last 12 months. From siigning some of the biggest Ghanaian acts to buying a private jet, Nana Appiah Mensah has definitely made his mark on the Ghanaian entertainment scene.
