- Kofi Adams says there is no other presidential aspirant for NDC aside John Mahama
- He says all the presidential hopefuls already campaigning are doing so against the party rules
The National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Kofi Adams has said the party does not recognize any other presidential hopefuls for 2020 except John Dramani Mahama.
According to Mr. Adams, all those who are essentially placing their bid to contest the NDC primaries, are doing illegally and going against the constitution of the party.
Kofi Adams’ comments follow the recent wave of reports that have pointed to some top NDC members, expressing interest in contesting for the position of the party’s flagbearer.
Among them are the Member of parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo, Alban Bagbin, a former minister in the previous Mahama administration, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, and Prof. Joshua Alabi.
According to a Ghanaweb.com report, the NDC organizer emphasized that there have been no open calls for nominations for the party's next leader in 2020.
“We don’t have any aspirants. We have not opened nominations. So at this point, we are not recognizing aspirants, we are recognizing people who have served. President Mahama was a Former President of this country and the immediate past leader of our party, so we give that due recognition to him,” Kofi Adams said.
Kofi Adams noted, that the party has a strict schedule that had been laid out, to open nominations for presidential hopefuls for the party.
He said until such time, the only presidential aspirant the party recognized was Former President John Mahama.
Meanwhile, the former director of the National Health Insurance Authority and a presidential hopeful of the NDC, Sylvester Mensah, has said he will go further than Former President Mahama ever did when he was in power.
According to him, if he is given the opportunity to serve, he would push Ghana forward, even more than than previous administration did, and he indicated that he is currently working with his advisors regarding his interest to contest in the NDC primaries.
