Popularity is something that can be very destructive if it is not managed tactfully by people who have come under the spotlight for something related to them.
Many people in Ghana crave to be popular and would sometimes do anything in their power to attain the ‘popular’ status. Some people however tend to become popular with little effort. Other people would have to go over and under to be noticed.
Nowadays, it takes something little or extraordinary for you to go viral on social media. Some of the people who have gone viral on social media did so out of something positive. Other people became very popular on social media for ‘not so good’ reasons.
Popularity that seems to come by negative acts normally does not last and these instant celebrities are soon forgotten.
Today, YEN.com.gh brings you some Ghanaians who became very popular but their popularity was short-lived.
1. Two Thoozin
Franklin Quartey, popularly known on social media as Two Thoozin rose to fame after his short video interview went viral. He became an instant sensation and many people mimicked his gestures and talked about his interview for days.
After his break out onto the internet, he ventured into a number of things including music but his popularity as we know it now cannot be compared to the time he took social media by storm with his “Month to the month and years to the years” interview.
2. The Virgin Pastor
Apostle Job Antwi shot to fame when he paraded himself as the leader of a group which called itself “The Association of Virgin Pastors”. He granted many interviews and appeared on many shows. He later announced that he was getting married and therefore was not going to remain a virgin. His popularity has since declined.
3. Rashida Black Beauty
The young teenager rose to fame and became so popular that her popularity won her an award. She became an instant hit that her videos on Facebook were shared so many times. She however hit a snag when an old video of her surfaced on the internet. Her famous “malafaka” signature sign off has worn off and with it, her instant popularity.
The originator of the “One Corner” song with which came the ‘crazy’ one corner dance, Patapaa, became on overnight sensation on social media and attracted a lot of clout from entertainers and the general public. He became so popular that he got a gig to perform at the prestigious Radio and Television Personalities Awards. His song however continues to ‘rule’ the airwaves. His wild popularity however is not as vibrant as when he first appeared on the music scene.
5. Lawrence Abrokwah
The embattled husband of self-acclaimed queen of Ghana comedy, Afia Schwarzenegger rose to the limelight in the wake of a video that went viral on social media. He became the ‘talk of the town’ on social media during the period the video was trending on social media. His popularity has however taken a slight dip in the past few weeks.
