Assemblyman robbed of thousands of Ghana cedis at gunpoint in his house

-An Assemblyman in Ashanti Region has been robbed at gunpoint

-He revealed that the robbers broke into his house at dawn and made with the money

-The matter has been reported to the Police in the area

Mr Akwesi Agyekum, the assemblyman for Onyankrom in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region has been robbed of GH¢37,000 at gunpoint in his residence.

The robbery took place on Monday dawn when weapon-wielding young men numbering about 7 stormed the house of the Assemblyman and made away with the cash.

Speaking in an interview with mynewsgh.com, Mr Akwesi Agyekum who doubles as a Cocoa Clerk revealed that the robbers threatened to take his life if he did not surrender all the money he had in his possession to them.

He went on to reveal that he succumbed to the wishes of the robbers for fear of his life and that of his family members who were also present at the time of the robbery.

Mr. Agyekum revealed that during the time of the operation, he was warned not to raise any alarm to attract the attention of his neighbors. He also indicated that he robbers, aside the GH¢37,000, made away with some of his personal belongings.

He revealed that the said amount was placed in a suitcase which was hidden in a safe in his house but the robbers managed to ransack his premises and found the safe.

Mr, Akwesi Agyekum who appeared visibly-shaken according to mynewsgh.com indicated that the robes also made away with their mobile phones and also deflated the tires of his car to prevent him from going after them.

He said some of the robbers escaped in a KIA salon car while the rest sped off on motorcycles. The case has since been reported to the Police in the area who have started investigations to get to the bottom of the matter.
