Respected Ghanaian dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy, has expressed worry about how he is suffering neglect from the Ghanaian media.
According to the artiste, Ghanaians do not celebrate and appreciate their own artistes unlike Nigerians do.
Stonebwoy’s comment follows the social media 'war' between dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale and fans of Nigerian musician, Wizkid.
Stonebwoy who was clearly not happy at a press briefing on Thursday, lamented that it is sad how the media has failed in projecting Ghanaian musicians and actors.
“One of the most trending tweets on twitter as I was coming here is the fact that Wizkid has won an international award over Jay Z and Beyonce at the MOBOS and the way the Nigerian media is carrying it is amazing, even the President of Nigeria is tweeting about it,” he said.
However, he said the situation is not the same back home, comparing the Ghanaian media to that of Nigeria.
Stonebwoy in his address stressed that Samini was the first African artiste to win a MOBO award in 2006 but the Ghanaian media sadly did not make news out of it.
“It is sad to have gotten the lowest likes on Instagram when I posted about my Grammy nomination with Morgan Heritage. Is it the English we do not understand or what?” he quizzed.
The artiste reacting to critics who are accusing him of bribing his way into the Grammy nomination, said, “If anyone thinks it’s that easy to get nominated for a Grammy, then they should get themselves in there”.
He also revealed he is the first African musician to have featured five international reggae artists on one album and yet the Ghanaian media has remained tight lipped.
