"I was desperate for money so when a friend told me about the trip to Spain, I opted for it without thinking twice", he disclosed in an interview on Joy FM .
The returnee, who asked to be only identified as Kofi was part of 127 returnees who were flown home by government last Wednesday.
In Libya, I was arrested and detained by a militia group for months," he said, adding "I was released after I had paid a ransom of $500", Kofi further revealed.
After his release, he had wanted to cross to Europe by sea but stories about the death of his colleagues going on that journey scared him.
"I was afraid I could die," he said, adding that it forced him to remain in Libya.
But despite his sad story, it leaves one to wonder why he would raise as much as ¢6,500 to go on such a trip when he could have started some business of his own.
