-Former President J.A. Kufuor has been appointed as Chancellor for the University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa.
-Mr Kufuor who becomes the first ever person to hold the position will serve a five year term which may be renewed for another term.
The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) has chosen former President John Agyekum Kufuor as its first ever Chancellor.
This was announced in a statement signed by Dr Stephen S. Yirenkyi, Chairman of the school's governing council.
According to the statement, the council made the decision to appoint Former President Kufuor as the chancellor of the university its 62nd (regular) Meeting held on 15th September, 2017 following the recommendations of a search committee.
As the Chancellor, he is expected to preside over all functions, and activities of the school, and confer all degrees, diplomas and certificates awarded by the university, among other duties.
The appointment takes effect from November 2017 and will last for years after which it may be renewed for another five years.
The statement added that a special congregation will be held in the University for the Investiture of Mr Kufuor as the Chancellor.
UMaT, located at Tarkwa in the Western Region, was formerly known as the Tarkwa School of Mines and was affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
It became a fully fledged university in 2004 after an act to that effect (Act 677) was passed by Parliament and assented to by the president, J.A. Kufuor.
