- A homeless man found a $10,000 check on the ground
- He went out of his way to return it to the owner
- The owner then gifted him a home in return
A homeless man in Connecticut, US, was rewarded in a big way when he went out of his way to return a $10,000 check he found on the ground along a street.
In an interview, Elmer Alvarez said he simply wished to do the right thing after finding the check. He Googled the address written on the back of it and got in touch with the owner.
It turned out to be successful real estate agent Roberta Hoskie. She was surprised at Elmer's honesty. When she met him to collect the check, she discovered that he was homeless.
Roberta then wrote him a check as a reward. However, she didn't stop there — she also gave him free admission into her own real estate training school.
She rewarded him even further by gifting him a home of his own.
Alvarez expressed his gratitude and said he only did the right thing:
I didn’t expect all this. Honestly, I gave it from the bottom of my heart and I expected nothing back in return. That’s how I do things.
