- Health minister says Nana Addo has been exposed to Swine Fever
- This follows his visit to the school during their 60th anniverary
It has emerged that President of the republic, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, is exposed to the outbreak of Swine Flu at Kumasi Academy.
Health minister, Dr Kwaku Agyemang Manu, says the exposure of the president to the virus was recorded when he visited the school last weekend during their 60th anniversary celebrations.
“The President has been exposed to the H1N1 disease but he has not been infected,” Dr. Agyemang Manu told Accra-based Joy FM Friday.
Addressing the press in an emergency briefing, the health minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu revealed that out of 44 cases reported, only 4 have died bringing to a total 11 deaths in the year alone.
Samples of students taken for intense investigation at Nuguchi revealed that out of the 19 samples collected, 12 tested positive for Influenza Type A.
Meanwhile, the health minister is calling for all students to be kept on campus as emergency means to provide vaccines to control the outbreak is ensured.
Earlier on, medical officers at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) are currently finding the exact name for the disease found in the bodies of students who recently died.
A senior pathologist at KATH, Dr Osei Sampene, had revealed on Nyira FM that "all bodies of students from Kumasi Academy showed signs of a strange disease which could also be one of its kind in Ghana".
