With no iota of doubts the Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's face-off has been the biggest and the most intense rivalry of any football era.
Both super stars have pushed themselves to the limits to outshine each other, scoring abundant of goals, winning lots of trophies which have also come with individual awards.
Not like we have not had exceptional players in their era but they have been so good that their lights have been so big that it cover the others.
Ronaldo and Messi have won 10 Ballon d'Or between them, but there are some players that could have won it if both super stars did not exist.
In 2008 Liverpool's Fernando Torres could have won it if Ronaldo and Messi dint exist, 2009 Xavi went close to winning it, in 2010 Iniesta who helped Spain win the World Cup also fell short of the Ballon d'Or race.
2011 Xavi made the final three again but still lost out in the race, 2012 Iniesta was back in it but was beaten to it by his team mate Messi.
It was the turn of French midfielder Ribery in 2013 but just like Iniesta and Xavi he also fell short, For the first time in 2014 we had a goalkeeper in Neuer but he finished behind Messi and Ronaldo.
In 2015 Neymar arrived on the scene but he also fell short of winning the highly coveted award, Griezmann had an outstanding campaign at the Euro but he also couldn't beat Ronaldo to the award, and Neymar finished third behind Ronaldo and Messi in 2017.
