The Lebanese man suspected to have sexually assaulted his 19-year-old househelp, is currently on oxygen support at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.
Rabih Haddad was arrested five days ago, after he was reported to the Airport Hills Police Station for beating and forcing himself on his house-help.
39-year-old Haddad’s plea for bail was rejected at the first court hearing and he was remanded in jail, to reappear before the court on December 19, by an Accra Central District Magistrate Court.
However, according to a Starrfmonline.com report, the suspect will appear before court on Wednesday, due to his health concerns.
The Lebanese employer of the 19-year-old victim had allegedly assaulted his employee for the fourth time, after his apparent displeasure with the coffee she prepared.
The victim stated her employer had hit her twice, and overpowered her in their struggle before he dragged her to his bedroom to sexually assault her.
However when the issue was reported to the Airport Hills Police station, the officer on duty at the time, allegedly escorted the victim back to her employer’s house instead, supervised the gathering of her belongings and only ensured that she received her November salary which was GHC 350.
The victim in her report, further disclosed that whenever the boss’ wife was not home, she was constantly pressured to sleep with him.
Meanwhile, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, the former Attorney General, will be the legal counsel for the victim.
Mrs. Appiah-Oppong has said she is very interested in the case and has been following the matter since it came to light, adding she is determined to see that justice is served.
