Details about what really caused the fatal fight were sketchy but YEN.com.gh has gathered that the brawl started because Chief Tipsy challenged the ‘Vandal status’ of George.
According to a statement from the Old Vandal's Association (OVA):
"The two were part of a group of former residents of University of Ghana’s Commonwealth Hall (Old Vandals) who attended a colleague's funeral at Amrahia.

“It started as a mere argument between the two (the deceased and the killer) in the OVA [Old Vandals Association] bus on our way from Amrahia to campus (after attending the funeral of the late Vandal Lion).
"The argument became heated and the two had to be separated on several occasions by others. It went on and on. So, when we got to Atomic Junction, the driver was advised to stop and the two were thrown out of the bus. Others joined them.
“When they got to the Hall, they had not stopped. It was at this time that the killer allegedly grabbed the knife of the khebab seller and cut the victim several times with it. The victim bled profusely and was rushed to the Legon Hospital by the killer and some Vandals".

He is said to have stabbed him about six times in the neck, Ghanaweb quoted unnamed sources as saying.
The deceased, a resident of the Commonwealth Hall is said to be in his early 30s and he comes from Nsoatre in the Brong Ahafo region while George is an 18-year-old student who is not officially a hall member.
