Chairperson of the Electoral Commission Charlotte Osei has officially written to President Akufo-Addo requesting that the copy of a petition seeking her removal is made available to her.

Joy News reports that the EC Chairperson has written two separate letters to both the president and the Judicial Committee seeking an official copy of the petition calling for her removal from office.

According to her, per the content of the intercepted letter, she must be privy to such an important document in order to also seek legal advice.

Portions of her letter read: “I would respectfully like to make you aware of the following:

(a) I have to this day, not been furnished with a copy of the alleged petition.

(b) I was provided with a statement of the allegations made against me in a letter from Her Ladyship, the Chief Justice in which she also asked me to respond to the allegations.”

This comes after growing tensions between the EC Chairperson and her two deputies, Mrs Georgina Opoku-Amankwaah and Amadu Sulley, over difference concerning deals signed by the Commission in the lead up to the 2016 elections.

The EC boss is being accused of engaging in some fraudulent deal on the blind side of other executives – an allegation she has countlessly vehemently denied.

An impeachment petition was however subsequently sent to the president by some faceless EC personnel, of which the president also forwarded to the Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo, in pursuant to Article 146(3) of the 1992 Constitution.

However, with the Chief Justice deciding to begin the impeachment process, Mrs. Osei is requesting that she is served with an official copy of the petition seeking her removal from office.

The presidency, though, has referred her back to the CJ, stating that all documents have already been forwarded to the CJ’s Office.

Meanwhile, Citi News reported that Charlotte Osei, will respond to only six out of the 27 allegations made against her. According the Citi story only six of the allegations were deemed valid, for which she would have to answer before the probing committee that will be set up.

The Chief Justice is expected to officially inaugurate a five-member committee which will have three superior court judges and two ordinary citizens as members.
