It has been reported that a student of the Damongo Senior High School has been confirmed dead whilst some 9 other students of the school have been admitted at the hospital following an outbreak of meningitis.
The reports coming in from mynewsgh.com indicate that the first year student who was identified as Nantomah Fadila was rushed to the Damongo Government Hospital after she collapsed on campus.
Reports went on to indicate that she died shortly after her admission at the hospital. According to sources, some other 9 students of the school started manifesting similar symptoms like that of Fadila and they were all rushed to the government hospital to seek medical attention.
According to the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Saeed Muazu Jibreal the situation was currently being closely monitored with health and safety measures fully activated to prevent any more cases.
However, some of the students in the institution have been left in shock and harbor fears of contamination that might affect them as well.
The students are currently sitting for their end of term examinations in anticipation of the long Christmas break.
There were earlier reports of a similar outbreak of meningitis in the Kumasi Academy which saw the loss of some lives as a result.
