One of Ghanaian’s most respected gospel musicians, Sonnie Badu, has not hidden his love for secular music even though he does gospel.
The ‘Baba’ hit maker has said he listens to secular music as a means to get abreast with the time or to be ‘current’ as said locally.
Sonnie Badu’s comments could also be that he gets refreshed by listening to secular music too.
This is because he danced to Kwabena Kwabena’s ‘Adult Music’ at his wedding reception in 2014.
And even though some gospel lovers said they were disappointed in him that would not stop Sonnie Badu from enjoying his secular choices.
He disclosed that his favourite picks for secular music are from the ‘Highest’ musician Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy and the reigning dance hall queen Ebony Reigns.
Sonnie Badu justified his love for secular music by emphasizing that he is a showbiz person, therefore he needs to know what music and artiste is trending.
“I listen to gospel but I listen to secular music too; I have to listen to everything because I am a showbiz person.”
“I need to know what is going on; I need to know who is trending and what is trending so I listen to every [kind of music] to be abreast with the times,” Minister Badu told mynewsgh.com
He also disclosed that he is always on the lookout for new talents in the Ghana music industry and follow their works.
“Anytime I hear that there is a new kid on the block who is trending, I try my best to listen to the person in order to know more about the individual,” he said.
Sonnie Badu also declared unflinching support for Ebony Reigns.
According to him, Ghanaians need drop the criticisms about the young talent Ebony and support.
