- The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George says Akuffo Addo is handling Charllote Osei’s impeachment petition wrongly.
- According to the NDC MP, Akufo Addo has erred in deciding to proceed with the petition by unnamed faces to remove the EC Chair, Mrs. Charlotte Osei.
- He further urged the President to emulate the late former President Atta Mills who foiled all attempts by some party people to remove the former Chief Justice Georgina Wood.
The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has condemned President AKufo Addo’s way of handling the petition to remove the Electoral Commission chair from office.
In July this year, the President hinted that a group of un-named people petitioned him to revoke Charlotte Osei’s position as the EC chairperson.
Another concerned citizen, Douglas Seidu, also petitioned the President in August 2017, seeking the removal of the EC Chair for accusations of “financial misconduct, incompetence, conflict of interest, breaches of the public procurement processes, amongst others
President Akufo-Addo in accordance with the constitution forwarded both petitions to the Chief Justice to begin probe into the matter.
However, the petitions has been described as frivolous by Sam George, who has stressed that Akufo Addo’s decision to act on them is an affront to Ghana’s democracy
Sam George in an interview on Citi News said the President could emulate the exemplary leadership by the late former President John Evans Attah Mills who refused a similar petition to kick out the former Chief Justice, Mrs. Georgina Wood from office when she was cited in some state lands controversy.
He stressed that the petition coming from faceless beings alone should make the President cautions in handling it.
According to Sam George, even though the allegations brought forward against the EC Chair and her deputies are not the best, he still believes the President could address the issues without playing with Ghana’s democracy.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Charlotte Osei has asked the government to furnish her with a copy of the petition seeking her impeachment.
She has defended herself from the various allegations levelled against her saying she is only be hounded by certain individuals for their own interests.
