-President Akufo-Addo receives Honorary Doctorate Degree in Liberia
-The honor was done by the University of Liberia during its 98th Commencement Exercises
President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was on December 13 awarded an honorary doctorate degree for his immense contribution to the Rule of Law in Ghana.
The award which was in the category of Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree Honoris Causa in International Law was awarded to the president by the University of Liberia during the school’s 98th Commencement Exercises.
According to government’s website which announced the honor, the Honorary Doctorate degree was given to President Akufo-Addo by the Board of Trustees of the University of Liberia after he was recommended for the honor by Professor Ophelia Weeks, the President of the University.
The honor was due to Akufo-Addo’s contribution in solidifying the Rule of Law in Ghana, his priceless contribution as a statesman in the past years and his efforts at helping to strengthen the peace-building processes in Liberia, the website indicated.
The president expressed his gratitude for the honor done him and promised not to bring the Honorary Degree given to him into disrepute.
This Honorary Degree conferred on the president brings the number to two Honorary Degrees received by Akufo-Addo from May last year. The first Honorary Degree was given to Akufo-Addo by Fort Hare University in South Africa.
In his acceptance speech, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo praised the university for all the great men and women it had produced and also lauded the school for their efforts in shaping the “intellectual, moral and political outlook of Liberia”, the official website of the government wrote.
