A final year student at the Bawku Senior High Technical School (Bawku SecTech) in the Upper East Region has died in a suspected case of meningitis outbreak.
According to reports, nine other suspected cases have been detected at the school and they are currently on admission at the Bawku Presbyterian hospital.
This is the third meningitis outbreak in second-cycle schools across the country within the last seven days.
Barely 24 hours before the Bawku SecTech incident, one person had been reported dead from a suspected outbreak at the Damongo Senior High School in the West Gonja district in the Northern region with nine other students on admission at the Damango District Hospital.
The first outbreak occurred at Koforidua Secondary Technical School (SECTECH) where a second year old student died last Saturday at the Koforidua General Hospital. 22 students who are said came in contact with their deceased colleague have been put under strict monitoring by health authorities. in the region.
Apart the many incidents of meningitis, eleven students of Kumasi Academy (KUMACA) have, starting from April, this year, died in what was recently revealed to be cases of Swine Flu.
