Seasonal gospel diva, Obaapa Christy, has been adjudged the national gospel artiste of the year.
She obtained this award at the maiden edition of the just ended National Gospel Music Awards held in Kumasi on Sunday.
This award scheme is brought about by Royal Akofena Entertainment in collaboration with The Multimedia Group Limited, Kumasi.
The National Gospel Artiste of the Year category was really a tough one owing to the heavyweight gospel musicians who were also nominated for that award.
However, Obaapa Christy beat colleagues Joe Mettle, Minister OJ; Gifty Osei; Diana Antwi Hamilton; Akesse Brimpong and Brother Sammy for that prestigious title..
The ‘Hyebre Sesafo’ hit maker also won in the Female Vocalist of the Year category for ‘Hyebre Sesafo’, the same song that fetched her the overall winner on the night.
The reigning Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year, Joe Mettle also won the best Male Worship Song of the Year with his hit song ‘Onwanwani’.
Other winners included Sonnie Badu who won the Best African Gospel with his popular song ‘Wonder God’.
Jack Alolome also grabbed two awards; the Best Contemporary Gospel Album and Best Collaboration awards with Princess Ifeoma.
Professor Kofi Abraham, the man credited with the invention of gospel music was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
