The Communications Minister, Madam Ursula Owusu Ekuful has condemned the continues airing of popular Indian telenovela, Kumkum Bhagya on Adom TV.
According to the Minister, showcasing foreign culture on Ghanaian television for such a long period has its own consequence on the Ghanaian society and its people.
Madam Ekuful speaking recently at a forum in Accra, stressed that Ghanaians must sharpen their skills to produce more local television content that depicts the Ghanaian culture to be aired TVs.
She also encouraged media houses especially television stations to assist in exporting the Ghanaian culture, beliefs and lifestyle to the world.
“We should not always be consumers of contents produced in other jurisdiction but also be proud of what we have and sell our culture to the rest of the world. For us in Ghana, I was trying very hard not to mention any programme, so let me apologize, I don’t even know what station broadcast it. The DTT Platform should not just be a platform to showcase Kumkum Byagya,” Kasapafmonline report quoted the minister.
The Kumkum Bhagya TV series has been aired on Adom TV in Ghana since 2015.
Though a lot of Ghanaians have heavily criticized the Adom TV over the Indian telenovela, many others also seem to be obsessed with the show.
The TV series even generated huge controversy months ago, after it made its way into Class four English Language examination questions set by the Yilo Krobo Municipal Education Directorate.
Recently, the leading actors of the Kumkum Bhabya series were in Ghana, where organizers of the programme, Adom TV charged fans as high as GHC600 to have dinner with the stars.
