Kufuor explains why he can't be friends with Rawlings

-Former President Kufuor has said he would like to have a friendly relationship with his predecessor, JJ Rawlings

-But this, according to Mr Kufuor, can only happen if Mr Rawlings stops attacking him unnecessarily

But for the incessant attacks on his personality, former President John Agyekum Kufuor would have preferred a much friendly relationship with his predecessor, Jerry John Rawlings, Mr Kufuor has revealed.

Mr Rawlings who handed over power to Mr Kufuor in 2001 has since that time attacked his successor on countless occassions often describing him as corrupt.

Recently, he attacked Mr Kufuor over what he said was the demeaning of the legacy of Ghana's first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

Speaking on Starr FM's Starr Chat on Wednesday, former President Kufuor expressed his displeasure at Mr Rawlings and admonished him to accord him some respect.

“I would have preferred being friendly with him but every now and then somehow he will burst out saying unfounded things about me and making me feel awkward", he said.

According to him, it was only good for the Ghanaian society if their relationship was normal an thus Mr Rawlings must be guided in his utterances.

“I am not worried because I keep a free mind…for the sake of our society naturally I would want the relationship to be quite normal…he was the longest serving Head of State, he should be guided by above all himself, he should know what to say and what not to say.

“I keep an open mind and I wish he keeps the same, if he really feels there is something Kufuor has done, he rather should approach me to find out", the former president stated.
